The MCSSA offers the following FREE services to all public water supply systems that serve a population less than 10,000.
GROUP TRAINING SEMINARS
Group training seminars are conducted throughout Massachusetts in each of the four Department of Environmental Protection Regions: Northeast, Southeast, Central, and Western. Continuing Education Units are awarded to those who complete a seminar. Topics include the following:
- Financial Planning for Small Water Systems
- New Rules Training (e.g. DBP, Arsenic, etc.)
- Water Distribution Planning & Implementation
- Safe Drinking Water Act Requirement Updates
- Water Source Protection Planning and Implementation

ONE-ON-ONE SITE VISITS
MCSSA water system specialists conduct one-on-one site visits with public water system owners and operators to provide on-site technical assistance. Guidance and assistance is provided in the following areas:
- Operation & Maintenance
- Records & Reporting
- Sampling Techniques and Schedules
- Grants Financial Assistance
- Source & Distribution Protection

REGIONAL MENTORING SESSIONS
Mentoring sessions are an interactive training session in which experienced water works professionals, including engineers, consultants, and specialized drinking water staff share their knowledge and skills with small water systems. The mentoring sessions are designed to provide pertinent information to assist water systems maintain regulatory compliance.
- Learn from experienced drinking water professionals
- Attend presentations on pertinent water supply topics
- Participate in interactive group discussions
- Meet fellow water system owners and operators
- Develop a network of resources and contacts for future information

OUTREACH TO SCHOOLS
The MCSSA partner, MWWA, attends career fairs and gives presentations at schools throughout the year to promote awareness about the drinking water profession and encourage involvement in the field.
